Introduction:
This is a towing safely course, which includes both practical hands on and knowledge testing to determine competence in line with Nationally Recognised Training requirements.
Target Audience:
This course has been developed for clients who need to tow as part of their job (and leisure). This may include those who are required to operate light/heavy vehicles and plant, as part of their day-to-day work tasks. Like all of our courses/workshops, this course can be contextualised to meet the specific needs of our clients.
Towing vehicles may include: trailers, earth moving equipment, drilling rigs, boats, caravans.
Enrolments are open to new and existing clients.

Learning Outcomes:
- Carry out trailer safety inspection
- Connect trailer to vehicle
- Drive and manoeuvre a trailer while attached to a driving vehicle
- Disconnect trailer from vehicle
Learning Methods:
The training day consists of a variety of road and traffic conditions contextualised to cover all areas of trailer use in line unit of competency and Client requirements.

Content:
- Towing legislation, vehicle and trailer specifications and dynamics
- Trailer inspections, route preparation and pre-start checks
- Loading positioning and securing load
- Coupling and uncoupling
- Trailer swaying - causes and prevention
- Safety - chains, braking (emergency, ABS), manual over-ride
- Steering and seating methods - vehicle control
- Towing safely methods - hazard awareness, various driving environments
- Reversing - various scenarios
- Emergency situations - trailer sway, blow out, brake/mechanical failure
